Earl H. Richardson (1871-1934) worked for Ontario Electric Company in Ontario, California, before inventing the Hotpoint iron and starting his own company, the Pacific Electric Heating Co., in 1906. The company merged with the General Electric Company to form the Edison Electric Appliance Co. in 1918, and was later bought out by General Electric and renamed the General Electric Company, Ontario Factory.
